So I went to the midnight showing of "Indiana Jones and the Legend of the Crystal Skulls" last night with a friend from work and some of her pals. Here's the review (with no spoilers, I might add.)
It had all the flavor of an old-school Indy movie: the action sequences, the suspense, the humor, twists and turns, and the dialogue. It was very reminiscent of the old films, which was great. Throw in a few references to the older movies and you have a very engaged, very entertained audience. Effects: Very, very good.
And honestly, it was entertaining. Harrison Ford's still got it, and Shia LaBeouf was great. I didn't even recognize the villain as being played by Cate Blanchett! So acting: top notch.
The storyline...hokey. Honestly hokey. Like, it started off really well with some talk of Mayans and ancient gods, but seriously, the last ten minutes took it to a level that it did not need to be at...at all. The plot took a ridiculous turn that really threw me off. Bit of a bummer, really. I would've enjoyed it more if they kept it more fact-based. Plot: decent, but disappointing.
So overall, I give the movie a 3.0. I haven't quite made up my mind if this is a "purchaser" yet, but it was worth seeing. Worth $9? Maybe. But if you can see it for cheaper, go that route instead.

i mean, indy's proved everything else.. christianity, hinduism, and the exsistance of jesus christ. why not this thing too?
But then, one of the people I was with brought up a good point. The movie was set in the 1950s, right? That's around the time when all that business with those things was happening. So, I think if this movie had come out 30 years earlier, it perhaps would've been a bit more conceivable.
And I'll look out for that Sci-Fi special. I'd like to know just how close the movie came to what's accepted.
